As we conclude this opening month of the year, I must admit that 2025 has begun remarkably well. My goal for this year was to avoid setting impractical New Year’s resolutions, opting instead to let things unfold naturally while remaining intentional in my actions.
I am pleased to report that I’ve been lucky enough to stay engaged and committed to activities that have pushed me beyond my comfort zone. Venturing into a new direction within the media sector has been an extraordinary journey. So extraordinary, in fact, that I am now preparing to host the celebration for the launch of my friends new album in my hometown.
To commemorate this special occasion, I’ll be savoring a Blackberry Basil Mojito this evening. This refreshing cocktail, crafted with seven ingredients, is easy to make and offers a delightful mix of tangy and sweet flavors. It’s ideal for happy hours, social gatherings, and capturing the spirit of summer. Nevertheless, it’s always nice to have something rejuvenating.

Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp cane sugar
- 1/2 medium lime (quartered)
- 3 ripe blackberries (plus more for garnish)
- 6-7 basil leaves (plus more for garnish)
- 1.7 ounces white rum (such as Bacardi)
- 1 cup crushed ice
- 1/4 cup soda water (aka club soda)
Instructions
- Add lime segments, blackberries, and sugar to a cocktail glass and gently muddle 7-8 times (use a muddler or anything with a blunt edge, such as the handle end of a spatula).
- Add basil and gently muddle again 4-5 times to infuse flavor.
- Add white rum and gently stir/fold with a spoon to combine.
- Then add crushed ice, gently stir, and top with a splash of club soda. Gently stir/fold once more. Then garnish with a bit more crushed ice and garnish with basil.
