Let’s Take A Softer Approach for 2025

Sis, it’s just a few hours into the new year and I’m bursting with excitement for all that I deserve and what’s on its way. While I’m all in for personal development and setting goals, I’ve been pondering the pressure we put on ourselves to overachieve in the spirit of a fresh start. Let’s face it, the new year can sometimes feel less like a time of renewal and more like an overwhelming performance evaluation. We’re flooded with expectations to improve, achieve more, and somehow morph overnight into these ideal, polished versions of ourselves. It’s exhausting. I’ve been challenging myself to embrace a new perspective for the new year, one rooted in intention and purpose rather than performance.

For me, entering the new year isn’t about crafting an exhaustive list of resolutions or setting unreachable goals. It’s about asking myself: How do I want to feel? What experiences do I want to create? And what small, meaningful steps can I take to align my life with those feelings and experiences? This year, I’ve decided to let go of the pressure to overachieve. Instead, I’m embracing the beauty of intentional living. I want to embrace the idea that my worth isn’t tied to how much I accomplish in 365 days. I want to focus on cultivating a life that feels good, not just one that looks good on paper or to others. I’m giving myself permission to move at a pace that suits me. January will be a month for reflection. While there’s plenty of room for progress, I’m reminding myself that progress isn’t linear, and every season of life has its own rhythm. I’m choosing grace over grit, alignment over hustle.

For anyone else feeling the weight of new year pressure, here’s your reminder: You don’t have to have it all figured out by January 1st. There’s no deadline on your growth and no prize for how quickly you “get it together.” This year, let’s normalize entering the new year with gentleness. Let’s celebrate our small victories and honor our journeys, even if they don’t fit neatly into a resolution checklist.

One practice that’s helped me is journaling through the transition. I take time to reflect on what I’m bringing into the new year and what I’d like to leave behind. I write about the lessons I’ve learned, the moments that brought me joy, and the habits I want to nurture. These reflections ground me and serve as a gentle reminder that the new year is less about perfection and more about presence. So, as we step into this new chapter, I encourage you to set intentions that resonate with you.

Ask yourself what truly matters, not what society says should matter. And most importantly, let go of the need to overperform. You are enough, just as you are.

Here’s to a new year filled with purpose, intention, and the grace to honor your unique path. May it be everything you need it to be, and nothing you feel pressured to force it to become.

Happy New Year, Sis!
