Do You Need a Vision Board or an Action Board?

A vision board shows you the dream, but an action board makes it real.

Curating a vision board for the new year has become a trend over the years for manifestation reasons. We all want some things to come to life but we have to be able to see it. When you have a clear vision of what you want, it becomes easier to get into the mindset that will allow you to achieve those things.

After creating vision boards year after year, do you find yourself not being able to accomplish everything on it? Perhaps we may have been doing this wrong after all.

A few days ago, I learned, instead of doing vision boards we should be creating action boards. I actually agree.

A “vision board” is a visual representation of your dreams and aspirations, typically made up of images and quotes that inspire you to achieve your goals, while an “action board” focuses on the specific steps and tasks needed to reach those goals, including deadlines and detailed plans to turn your vision into reality.

Lately, it has been difficult for me to create a vision board. However, it has become a whole lot easier to write down all that I want to accomplish and how I will do so. I haven’t been in the mood to be super creative but to get straight to business and stay the course. This week I will shift my focus to a sustainable action board.

Vision boards are for dreaming, action boards are for achieving.

For my action board, I plan to write my goals for the year. Alongside my goals, I will focus on planning and outlining specific steps to achieve each one of them.

Instead of images, quotes and affirmations that are inspirational, I’ll include tasks, timelines, milestones and actionable steps toward the goals. Usually, my visions boards are broad and at times long term. This time my focus will be on short-term goals, this will allow me to strictly be goal oriented and specific on my wants and needs to achieve such milestones.

Creating an action board will bring some sort of discipline to my life. I strongly believe this will allow me to successfully be strategic while measuring my progress. This will be a clear roadmap and most importantly accountability for my “how”.

I’m creating my action board now. I’ll have an update for you next quarter or sooner.
