Why Every Woman Should Attend More Elegant Events

There was a time when attending elegant events like the Steel City Legacy Gala felt like something I’d only see on television.
You know the events I’m talking about…the ones where everyone is dressed to the nines, photographers are everywhere, people are walking the red carpet, and the room is filled with leaders, entrepreneurs, and creatives. They always looked glamorous from the outside, but if I’m being honest, I’ve always imagined myself being part of them. I didn’t know how or when, but that time finally came and there I was.
Hair done, dress on, heels that made me feel a little taller and microphone in hand.
So clearly I was not just attending, but covering the event.
Somewhere between the red carpet interviews, the camera flashes, and the conversations with people making a difference in Birmingham, I realized something…
Growth has a funny way of showing up.
A few years ago, if someone had told me I’d be interviewing people on a red carpet as a journalist, I probably would’ve laughed. Writing has always been my first love. I love sitting behind my laptop, telling stories, asking thoughtful questions, and connecting with people through words.
Being in front of the camera? Talking to strangers?
That wasn’t necessarily part of the plan, but life has a way of stretching us beyond the version of ourselves we’ve become comfortable with.
The funny thing is, once I started interviewing people, it didn’t feel forced. It felt natural, and every conversation reminded me that people simply want to tell their stories, and I’ve always loved helping them do that. Whether it’s through an article, a feature, or a quick red carpet interview, the goal is still the same, making people feel seen.
What’s even more exciting? Those opportunities keep growing. I’ve already been booked for more red carpet coverage, and every event teaches me something new about confidence, communication, and simply trusting myself.
That’s what stepping outside your comfort zone does.
It introduces you to a version of yourself you haven’t met yet.
I also realized something else that night.
Sometimes we spend so much time waiting for a “special occasion” that we forget life itself is the occasion.
How many beautiful dresses are hanging in our closets waiting for “one day”?
How many invitations have we declined because we thought we didn’t know anyone, didn’t have anything to wear, or simply talked ourselves out of going?
Ladies…
Go.
Buy the ticket.
Wear the dress.
Take the pictures.
Talk to new people.
Laugh.
Celebrate.
Life is meant to be experienced, not just observed through someone else’s Instagram feed.
One elegant evening can introduce you to a new friend, a mentor, a business opportunity, or simply remind you that you deserve to be in beautiful spaces too.
Four Reasons Every Woman Should Attend More Elegant Events
1. You build confidence.
There is something empowering about getting dressed up, walking into a room with confidence, and realizing you belong there. The more you do it, the less intimidating it becomes.
2. You expand your network naturally.
Some of the best conversations happen while waiting in line for a photo or chatting at your table. You never know who you’ll meet or what opportunities can come from simply introducing yourself.
3. You create memories you’ll actually remember.
Years from now, you probably won’t remember another night scrolling on your phone. But you’ll remember the laughter, the conversations, the photos, and the feeling of celebrating something special.
4. You remind yourself that you’re worthy of beautiful experiences.
This one is important. Don’t wait until you’ve reached every goal before allowing yourself to enjoy life. Celebrate the journey too.
The Steel City Legacy Gala reminded me that growth doesn’t always happen in an office or behind a computer screen. Sometimes it happens in a ballroom. Sometimes it happens on a red carpet. Sometimes it happens when you say “yes” to something that makes your stomach do a few nervous flips.
I’m so glad I said yes.
So here’s my challenge for you.
The next time an invitation lands in your inbox, or your group chat starts making plans, don’t overthink it. Don’t convince yourself you don’t belong.
Get dressed.
Show up.
Take the photo.
Meet the people.
Experience the moment.
Because the woman you’re becoming is waiting for you on the other side of your comfort zone… and trust me, she’s worth meeting.
